PORTLAND (WGME) – Health advocate groups and Mainers recovering from addiction gathered at Monument Square Thursday night, to push for new ways of treating people with substance abuse issues.
The Maine Coalition for Sensible Drug Policy is a group comprised of multiple organizations pushing for better substance abuse treatment in Maine. Thursday, they were handing out pins with hearts on them to help symbolize everyone who is effected by drug abuse in Maine.
“Everybody I know has been effected. Either they know somebody who is in recovery or struggling with substance abuse, or in my family,” Anna McKee of the Maine People’s Alliance said. “It’s real problem.”
